Nuestra Historia
Get to Know Us
In 1964, a small group known as “Los Tertulianos”, cultivated by Hispanic Students formed a student organization with the purpose to help promote the spread of Hispanic culture here at Texas Tech University. During this period, “Los Tertulianos” had become the first ever minority student organization established here at Texas Tech, which in turn set off a chain reaction for the building blocks of things to come. Since the organization has been around since the 60’s, it has evolved and grown, and with time the name has changed with it. During the 70’s, the organization was known as the UMAS (United Mexican American Students) before students finally settled on the Hispanic Student Society in 1984.
